Denis Dyack, head of Silicon Knights, recently spoke with TotalVideoGames at Microsoft's Spring Showcase even in San Fransisco. The topic of discussion? A possible sequel to the GameCube horror title, Eternal Darkness.

"There is a chance; we love all the games we work on. We don't want to be pigeon-holed [into a genre], we want to be known for strong content...There's a strong chance we'll return to it, but there's no announcements yet," Dyack told TVG.
Silicon Knights, now a second-party developer for Microsoft, is currently hard at work on Too Human for the Xbox 360. It is scheduled to launch in August. Will development of an Eternal Darkness sequel follow? We'll just have to wait and see.

Blockbuster Getting Dallas Mayor to Rock Out with Guitar Hero III

Posted by Brian Allen 1 day ago.

Blockbuster isn't afraid to try something a little crazy now and then. Recently they tried to buy Circuit City and they're in the process of expanding the video game sections of their 4,800 stores.

The Dallas-based retailer's primary competition is just a little bit north, Grapevine's gaming megapower GameStop. Blockbuster hopes to pick up the many casual gamers that Nintendo's brought to the party with their Wii console.

So this Friday Blockbuster's breaking out a publicity stunt aimed squarely at the casual gaming public with Guitar Hero III. Blockbuster chief Jim Keyes and Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert will jam on the game at the beginning of a 24-hour charity tournament. The marathon tourney will benefit non-profit foundation Education is Freedom and the positive publicity will surely benefit Blockbuster.

Prizes include a Wii console, a signed copy of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and two round-trip Southwest Airlines tickets. Make no mistake, though: The real competition firing up here has little to with Guitar Hero and everything to do with a share of the gaming marketplace.

Universal to Produce Bioshock

2K Games dropped a big bomb in the games-to-film world today with the announcement that the Bioshock movie is being produced by industry giant, Universal Pictures.

Even more exciting is the fact that the film already has an assigned director as well. Gore Verbinski, director of the Pirates of the Carribean movies, is "thrilled" to direct the film adaptation.

"BioShock fans appreciate the depth and complexity of the game, and our partnership with Gore Verbinski will introduce the world of Rapture to an even wider audience. In addition to his impressive body of work, Gore is an avid video gamer and true fan of BioShock. That was extremely important to us in deciding to move forward with this project," said 2K Games President, Christoph Hartmann.

No exact date as to the planned release, or exact start date for the production has been set.

Penny Arcade Game to Launch This Month

Posted by Sean Tonks  3 days, 12 minutes ago.

Lame media cash-in on popular net culture, or actual potential for a humorous and fun game? Since the announcement of Penny Arcade's episodic video game for download on PC and Xbox 360, many have asked that very question. Gamers can find out for themselves later this month.

On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, the first episode in a planned series of games is an RPG based off of a widely popular webcomic that generally covers the realm of gaming. Arguably thought of to be the first mainstream comic of its type, Penny Arcade's game is bound to bring in a slew of curious gamers and fans alike.

According to the press release: "On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness is an RPG-Adventure game set in the comic-book-meets-pulp-horror-meets-H.P. Lovecraft deranged 1920s universe of New Arcadia, delivering mature and compelling entertainment to gamers via accessible episodic delivery. The creative collaboration between Penny Arcade creators Mike 'Gabe' Krahulik and Jerry 'Tycho' Holkins, legendary game designer Ron Gilbert and veteran producers Hothead Games results in a 100% authentic Penny Arcade experience that pushes bizarre characters, outrageous combat, and adult humor to the precipices of darkness."

Each episode will have around 5-10 hours of gameplay, and be $19.95 or 1600 Microsoft Points.

On May 21st the title will be available to download from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace or on the PC from the official game website.

There will be no Playstation Network release for the game since the Torque engine on which On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness runs, is not supported on the Playstation 3.

Assassin's Solid Creed, huh?

Posted by Sean Tonks  3 days, 4 hours, 41 minutes ago.

News Image

It may have not just been a joke after all.

The April fools joke played by Ubisoft/Kojima was undoubtedly quite elaborate and left many of us scratching our heads. It showed, after a foreword from Assassin's Creed producer, Jade Raymond, what appeared to be Altair running through the battlefield of Metal Gear Solid 4. Upon closer inspection it was apparent that it wasn't simply Altair, but Solid Snake, in Altair's garb. The now iconic mustache and cigarette gave up the shenanigans.

But it now looks like the video has some validity. According to information released at the wrap party for Metal Gear Solid 4, the Altair costume is actually unlockable and playable within the game. How does one unlock it? Well, figuring it out is half the fun, right? That, and they wouldn't tell us.
