Last but not least is Microsoft.
Two exclusive games for the Xbox 360 that were shown are BioShock and Mass Effect. These are certainly two games to keep an eye on as they're generating a lot of positive buzz. Here again though, these games have shown up countless times at other game conferences and there wasn't any new information on them this time. Other games previewed, that also didn’t include anything new, are Call of Duty 4, Rock Band, Fallout 3, and exclusive content for Grand Theft Auto IV. The only really new thing shown by Microsoft were video editing tools for Halo 3.
So to sum everything up, this year’s E3 was all about trying to hype games that companies have been talking about for at least two years or more. Whether that’s due to next-gen games taking close to three to four years to develop, last year’s E3 being the one before the PS3 and the Wii launched, or just due to simple laziness, if you blinked sometime in the month of July you probably missed E3.
Maybe Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony just thought what they were bringing to E3 would get people excited. Like when Microsoft announced that you’ll be able to download Disney movies through Xbox Live. What they fail to understand is that the same consumer who is buying Halo 3 and BioShock are not going to download Lady and the Tramp. Or Sony showing off Home, which is basically a 3D chat room; welcome to the 90s Sony.
Then there is Nintendo with the Balance Board. While the Balance Board looks really cool I’m afraid it will most likely only be used for Wii Fit and Wario Ware: Balanced Moves. Hopefully the next E3 will be better and much more entertaining.
