July 2007 Game of the Month

It's that time of the month.

When primal man first crawled out of the caves and saw the light of the full moon he realized it had an effect on him.  It made him want to go out to nightclubs and party with Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton for one thing, but it also awakened that inner biological need for organization we seem to share as a species.  Eventually he realized that the sun would rise and set twenty eight times between each full moon and eventually we all had The Far Side desk calendars in our cubicles at work.  We started measuring things on a monthly basis and due to this being the standard for thousands of years we here at GWN are duty bound to bring you our choice for Game of the Month once again.

The nominees this month are:

Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Developer: Team Ninja
Publisher: Tecmo
Platform: PS3
Release: 7/3
ESRB: M

Few titles of the last generation of videogames were as stunning, compelling, exciting, and frustratingly challenging as the original Ninja Gaiden.  One of those that did meet the mark was Ninja Gaiden Black, a retooled version of the original game that added more coolness to what was already a great game.  Now in this new generation we have Ninja Gaiden Sigma and the folks at Team Ninja have quite literally done it again.

Ninja Gaiden sigma is not a sequel to that fine game of a few years back, it is another reworking of the original game.  It does add a lot of new content and gameplay, however, and it is a fantastic game for the PS3 - a system that is in desperate need of quality titles.

Here's a picture of the newly playable Rachel. You're welcome.

The biggest and most noticeable change to the game wears a D-cup.  Rachel the foxy feminine fiend hunter is now a playable character who kicks much booty, doling out damage with a mighty war hammer.  She's like Thor in an evening dress - but, you know, it works on her.  Rachel is not just a female option to counter the masculine Ninja Ryu; she's got her on sense of style, her own moves, and a whole different level of agility.  She can move pretty well and that hammer of hers really puts the hurt on her foes, but she's not nearly as agile as Ryu, forcing the player to change up way he or she plays while using this buxom babe.

There are a host of other changes as well, some more prevalent than others.  All serve to expand upon and improve what was already a fine game.  Ninja Gaiden Sigma may not be a completely new game, but this is no cookie-cutter port of the Xbox title either.  Fans of the original will want to get their mitts on this one as it offers a new look at an old favorite and those who have never played Ninja Gaiden have a great opportunity to see what all the fuss was about.
