The poor AI and incredibly short campaign will make it boring quickly, but the online play gives a new meaning to portable gaming.
Star Wars Battlefront is the most popular and profitable Star Wars gaming franchise ever conceived. Be it the simple yet exciting gameplay, awe-inducing multiplayer or simply that it was the first to really hit console gamers, it is a force to be reckoned with. So it came as a bit of a surprise when we found that the next part of the series was a PSP exclusive.

Our doubts weren’t unwarranted, but for the most part have been put to rest. Renegade Squadron (not to be confused with Rogue Squadron) is like most Star Wars games: its story is another addition to the universe that somehow plays into the larger plot of the movies. Not to say this is bad; it’s worked beautifully for more than a decade. Those of you who aren’t die-hard Star Wars fans will feel tired of it while others will ask why you can’t play as Luke Skywalker all the time.
RS also follows the traditional Battlefront gameplay, so those who liked that will love this. It’s easy to see that not much has changed since its previous iterations. Gameplay is basically the same as before, though there are a few recognizable differences.
Credits, the famous economy of the Star Wars universe, makes its way into gameplay. Using credits to purchase weapons, items and abilities is a system which enables players to get whatever they want, but at a price. No going over the set limit, which means everyone has the same restrictions, and simultaneously allows for a huge amount of customization. This may sound like it hinders a good game, but in fact does the opposite. Not only does it even the odds and allow for great personalization, these settings can be changed in the middle of a game at any of your team’s bases.

This makes customization is the greatest improvement made by RS to the Battlefront series. Not only can the weapons be changed, but characters can have their appearance altered in any way you like. Put the wrong robotic head on an android, change the guns to allies or enemies hold and use, whatever boats your float. Yes, that’s only for instant action, but that’s also half the fun.
